In a recent notification from MasterCard™, we were advised of a situation where your BSNB AvailPlus debit MasterCard may have been exposed to a potential privacy compromise of your account information.
Hannaford announced containment of a data intrusion into its computer network that resulted in the theft of customer credit and debit card numbers. This data was illegally accessed from Hannaford’s computer systems during the card verification transmission process in transactions.
The intrusion affected Hannaford stores in New England and New York State and Sweetbay stores in Florida. Also affected are certain, independently-owned retail locations in the Northeast that carry Hannaford products.
The intrusion reportedly occurred between December 7, 2007 and March 10, 2008.
To the best of our knowledge, no personal information (such as names, addresses, checking account numbers or social security numbers) was accessed. The stolen data was limited to credit and debit card numbers and expiration dates.
Although certain information may have been compromised in this situation, it does not mean that your account data was taken or that there has been fraud related to your account. We are receiving information directly from MasterCard regarding cardholders that have been compromised by this breach. BSNB will send notices to each affected customer via U.S. Postal Service.
BSNB is taking the proactive step of ordering a new card with a new card number for each customer who receives a notice. Further details will be provided in the notice.
We recommend that you closely monitor your account activity and bring to our attention any unauthorized or unusual transactions. To reach us, please call 518-885-6781 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
